Winter is not a barren, bleak time for flowers - as well as flowers available all year round

there are early bulb flowers like amaryllis, hyacinth, tulip, narcissus, and hellebore;

southern hemisphere exotics such as protea, kangaroo paw (Anigozanthos)and Euphorbia fulgens;

and foliages including ilex (hollyberry) and leucadendron to add much-needed colour.

TULIPA commonly called Tulip is a genus of about 100 species of bulbous flowering plant  in the family Liliacea. The native range of the species includes southern Europe, north Africa and Asia.The species are perennials from bulbs.Typically species have one flower per stem but a few species have up to four flowers. 

Although tulips are associated with Holland both the flower and its name originated in the Ottoman Empire.
